Mr Donnachie is a senior Orthopaedic Consultant at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.  He is married and lives with his family in Cheshire.  Together they enjoy walking, cycling, sailing and climbing.

Professional Profile

Mr Donnachie originally trained at the University of Liverpool before completing Fellowships at Wrightington Hospital, the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and overseas in Melbourne, Australia at the Austin and Repatriation Hospital and Harbor View Trauma Center in Seattle U.S.A. He qualified from Liverpool University Medical School in 1988 and attained the FRCS (Orth) qualification in 1997.

Mr. Donnachie has been in post as a full time Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery at Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust since January 1999.  He works on both the Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge sites and performs both elective and trauma surgery.  He runs a weekly trauma operating list.  

Mr. Donnachie specialises in elective hip and knee surgery and performs a high number of primary hip and knee replacements each year. He also has a busy revision arthroplasty practice and takes patient referrals from colleagues within the Trust and externally.

Mr Donnachie was Clinical Service Lead for hip and knee surgery at the Trust from 2014 to 2018 and continues to work hard to ensure that high levels of patient care and safety are maintained.  He is clinical lead for the management of metastatic fractures and runs regular outpatient clinics and operating sessions for this patient group.  Mr Donnachie's other management responsibilities include:

clinical interests

Mr Donnachie has extensive experience in primary and revision hip and knee replacement, knee arthroscopy, arthroscopic sports surgery and ligament reconstruction of the knee.  He also has an interest in the non-surgical management of conditions of the hip and knee.

private practice

Mr Donnachie runs a busy private practice and operates at Spire Murrayfield Hospital, Wirral on a weekly basis.  He also has weekly outpatient clinics, where he sees new and follow-up patients.

medico-legal practice

Mr. Donnachie has provided Medico-Legal reports on personal injury claims since 1994 and currently prepares approximately 100 reports per year, undertaking work on behalf both the plaintiff and the defendant.  He also regularly undertakes clinical negligence work and has a special interest in claims relating to failed metal on metal hip replacements and Adverse Reaction to Metal Debris (ARMD).
